Festival of Hope 20th September, Tunbridge Wells.
Heading toward winter with some warm gig memories...
30th September at The Forum in Tunbridge Wells, saw the 3rd annual Festival of Hope, organised by Tunbridge Wells Welcomes Refugees. We went with Bashir Al Gamar and the Sussex Syrian Trio (Jamal, Alaa and Zahi) The atmosphere was electric, with everyone dancing and celebrating together.
Kapil Seshasayee, Dryadic + Megan Clifton at The Rose Hill, Brighton. 17th October 2019.
We met Kapil at Solas Festival in June this year. His music deals with the Indian caste system. He's currently touring the UK with a full band to promo his new single The Item Girl about sexism in the Bollywood film industry. He's a great guy with lots to say and an exciting live performer, so it was a real honor to be able to put him on in Brighton. Support was from excellent Brighton acts Dryadic and Megan Clifton. Thanks to both for their great sets.
Kapil's music is here
He also runs the excellent Desifuturism.com a new culture that celebrates forward-looking voices in South Asian culture through the mediums of literature, film, music, theatre & visual art outwith the commodification of a colonial gaze.
Big thanks to everyone who helped out; Ally and Laila for running the door, and Laila for the delicious curry, all the performers and everyone who came to the gig on a rainy winters eve, it was nice to have a crowd who really appreciated the music. Also thanks to everyone at The Rose Hill, who as always everyone feel welcome. If you've not been, check it out, its quite a special place.
