Context
Best Foot Music is a play on ‘Best Foot Forward’. A way to look ahead, and conjure positive images & conversations on the movement of people & cultural contributions made by those people.
Music is a route through which people can express their complex identities and become part of a wider community. Whilst helping make it easy to find us online, simplistic labels such as ‘Refugee’ & ‘Migrant’, or viewing or people solely by religion or ethnicity can be divisive. We value individual complex identities and promote shared values, experiences. A Brighton based non-profit organisation.
We collaborate with musicians & communities who have moved to the UK from around the World.
Established in 2009, we aim to make space for artists who may be marginalised,
to co-create projects & document their work. There are many reasons people move to another region, but the migration of people and ideas is and always has been a normal pattern of human behaviour. We occasionally document the work of organisations that share our values of celebrating diverse communities or document the work of organisations that give context to the reasons people are forced to flee their homes and seek safety in the UK.
